doorbell cover.

Since we moved into our home, our old doorbell mechanism has been exposed. I have kept it covered with pretty wreaths for the Fall and Winter season so this Spring I was itching for a new idea. I did not want to buy a generic, plastic cover-I wanted something unique. I found this old frame at Goodwill, put a wallpaper remnant in for a printed background and pressed these vellum letters on top to say "there is no place like home." I am pretty excited about my new doorbell cover that I spent $1.99 on and a little elbow grease.

primitive chair in entry.

I am loving how this has turned out. This summer I bought this primitive, turquoise chair with no seat for a dollar at an estate sale. I bought the "World Book" to substitute as a "seat" for a dollar at the same sale. The antique mirror was my husband's grandparents and the new plant I found at a adorable shop in downtown Bay City last week. I love the simplicity of this display and everything about it is an example of my style: inexpensive, collected, unique and light/bright colors.

living room desk.

We rearranged our living room furniture to accommodate our Christmas tree and preferred the new setup to the old (which left us with a considerable blank space from the tree). This worked out well because a table a friend and I repainted last year (view table makeover) had been in our kid's playroom and I had missed working at it in our new home. It is now arranged in our living room under a large window looking out at the street. I have gone back to using this table everyday. I find this to be a very peaceful place to read my morning devotional, play or do a craft project with the kids, journal, clip coupons, etc. It works out well because I can have the space quietly to myself in the mornings but throughout the day it keeps me closer to where the kids are playing or my husband is watching TV while I fold laundry or serve a snack here. It has worked out so well, the color scheme goes well in my living room and this new useable space makes me smile!

fenton shoes.

I have been collecting Fenton glass shoes for about a year. I keep my collection in my dressing room (I will elaborate more on this room when it is really how I want it). My son and I scooped up this old dirty shelf for a dollar at Goodwill. We repainted it, added the striped print as a backdrop and placed all my shoes on it for a beautiful display upstairs. The only problem now is that the shelves are already full...guess we will have to be creative when we add more pieces to our collection...thanks buddy.

a few of my favorite kitchen accessories.

I just wanted to share a few of my favorite accessories and spots in my kitchen. My kitchen is mostly black, white and teal but I have a few small accents of other colors and I think they are unexpected and compliment the overall feel of the kitchen and the rest of the house.

This small area of butcher block countertop and white painted brick is my favorite spot in the kitchen. Eventually my husband is going to have this backsplash of brick go throughout the whole kitchen for me. For now it highlights this small, clean splash of yellow and makes the baking center of my household stand out.

The black backsplash that goes around most of my kitchen is not my favorite and in an especially visible spot I propped this beautiful white, glass breakfast tray to draw the eye elsewhere. Also, my mom gave me that green ceramic bird a few years ago and I love how it is so prominently displayed in the kitchen in front of the breakfast tray.

our baby girl is 2.

Emilia Jane turned 2 this past week and we had a sweet party to celebrate. I love having her birthday so close to Valentine's Day because love is in the air and pink is in the stores! She wore a beautiful outfit that fits her fun loving personality and we decorated the house in her baby Anthropologie, pink style! She had a great day! She wants to thank all her family and friends for so many great gifts and her mom and dad want to give all their thanks to God for this sweet angel baby!

valentine's toast for breakfast.

Happy Valentine's Day! This morning I woke to find a beautiful display of flowers from my husband (thank you honey) and the kids and I shuffled downstairs to make breakfast. We decided in the spirit of Valentine's Day we would make cinnamon and sugar toast, dyed red and cut into hearts...it sure was a treat and a fun start to a special day. The kids loved it and it was very quick and easy. Now I am off to spend the day with my lovebugs!
